Guided tour duisport by bus

The port at the confluence of the Rhine and Ruhr ist not only the world's largest inland port, but also the world's largest inland container hub.

The Port of Duisburg

On 16 September 1716, at the point where the Rhine meets the Ruhr, the once unpaved anchoring ground began its impressive growth story to become the world’s biggest inland port. The Port of Duisburg has continuously evolved over the course of time. As a key hub for Germany’s industrial heartland, the port has constantly been at the forefront of groundbreaking developments and is also one of the oldest testaments to industrialisation in Germany. The Port of Duisburg has become the leading logistics hub in Central Europe as a result of the intelligent linking of road, rail and water. A site occupying 1,550 hectares, 2.2 million square metres of covered warehouse space, 20,000 dispatched ships, 25,000 trains and several million tonnes of goods handled each year are impressive evidence of the importance of the port for the industrial state of North-Rhine Westphalia.
