König-Heinrich-Platz
On Königstraße, by the FORUM Duisburg, visitors can enjoy a view of verdant green lawns with the majestic neoclassical façade of Duisburg Theatre in the background. This is König-Heinrich-Platz, the beating heart of Duisburg city.
The heart of Duisburg city
With theatre, ballet and opera at Duisburg Theatre and the philharmonic orchestra and entertainment in the Mercatorhalle at the CityPalais, König-Heinrich-Platz is also the cultural centre of the city. It is also quite simply the place to be in the city centre, especially when the weather is fine, when the lawns are besieged by sun worshippers and people playing ball games. Children splash around in the adjoining fountain and people take it easy under the shades of the parasols belonging to the cafés and restaurants on the CityPalais terrace.
Even though the area is pretty spacious – measuring 160 metres long by 55 metres wide – it can also get pretty cramped here, because visitors flock to the city centre in their thousands when smaller and larger open-air events are held here.
