Duisburg christmas market
Every year, in the run-up to Christmas, Duisburg's city centre turns into an atmospheric, glowing sea of light with almost a hundred beautifully decorated wooden stalls, festively decorated pine trees and twinkling festive lights. Nearby shops also join in, enchanting visitors with beautifully decorated shop windows in Christmas atmosphere. Now begins for many the most wonderful time of the year that puts both young and old in a festive mood. Deliciously scented delicacies and traditional, handcrafted products complete the scene and invite you to visit the Christmas market again.
Also this year, the traditional Ferris wheel and the amazing fairground attractions conjure up beaming smiles on the faces of all children. For countless guests from home and abroad, the annual Christmas market is part of a regular pre-Christmas outing. While visitors end the day with a hot mulled wine in the evening, many are thinking about coming back again. There is plenty of time for that, as the Duisburg Christmas market does not close its doors until 30 December 2024.

Lichtermarkt premium artisan market
The schauinsland-reisen Lichtermarkt takes place from 29 November to 1 December 2024 in the Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord (opens in a new tab) and offers an atmospheric Advent experience. The impressive light installation transforms the former ironworks into a magical winter wonderland. Visitors can admire unique handmade items by 120 craftswomen and craftsmen, including woodwork, jewellery, ceramics and textiles. Culinary delights include classic curry sausage, mulled wine and vegan dishes such as veggie burritos and kale.
The market also offers special programme elements, such as a new world record attempt in the casting hall on the opening day and a puppet theatre for families, which takes place several times over the weekend. A cosy Advent Café and festive brass music by the ‘Gabrieli Quartet’ also create a Christmas atmosphere.
Since its premiere, the light market has established itself as an integral part of Duisburg's event calendar. The event area has been expanded to provide more space to browse and hang out. Tickets are available online from 21 October, adults pay €6.50, children under 12 have free entry.
