Find out more about three important Ruhrort women who pulled the strings here for three centuries. Aletta Haniel, a single mother and successful entrepreneur from the 18th century, Amalie Weidner-Steinhaus, a folk poet from the 19th century, and Johanna Niederhellmann, a committed resistance fighter during the Nationalist Socialist era.

In addition, you will learn interesting things about the working world of women in the course of industrialisation, inland shipping life and anecdotes on local history.
